I am a planner and a list maker. If there is a timed event, I will arrive early because I do not like being late. Checking things off a list gives me a rush. I was the kid who did my homework during lunch break so that I would have less to do when I got home. And on those days when I managed to get ALL of my homework done before the end of the school day… Well, on those days, I was in heaven. 🙂
I am also the type of person who eats the food I like least first and save the best stuff for last. It’s the same way with work. I will schedule the stuff I don’t like to do first so that I can get it over with.
What I am not, is a procrastinator.
Except with my writing.
I can’t explain this phenomenon. Everything I am goes right out the window when it comes to my writing. I love to write. I love my characters and their stories. I’ve even found that I enjoy editing those stories. Yet I will do everything else on my to-do list before writing.
Can any of you relate to this?
It is fascinating and frustrating at the same time. When I think about my propensity to procrastinate on my writing I just don’t recognize myself. Who is this person that takes over my body keeping me from the written word?
How do I overcome this anomaly in my personality?
I know that some of it comes from fear and yet I usually face my fears head on. Not so with the writing. I just don’t get it.
Are you a procrastinator?
What tips can you give me to overcome this?
